Falora privacy policy
Falora is made by one person in Portugal. This policy is short because the app collects little, and saying exactly what and why is worth more than pages of legal padding.
Without an account, nothing leaves your phone
You can learn in Falora without an account. Until you sign up, your name, the stops you have finished, the words you have met, your streak, your saved phrases and your settings are stored only on your device. How you say thank you (obrigado or obrigada, which follows your gender in Portuguese) always stays on your phone, account or not. Deleting the app deletes all of it, and "Start over" in Settings does the same.
We never collect your contacts, your precise location, your photos, your microphone, your advertising identifier, or anything about other apps on your phone. Falora does not ask for those permissions.
If you create an account
An account keeps your progress safe, puts you on the leaderboards, and lets you log in on another phone. When you sign up we store:
- Your email address and a password, to log you in. Passwords are stored only as a secure hash; we cannot read them.
- Your first name and the avatar you picked, shown to other learners on the leaderboards.
- Your city, with its region and country, which you choose from a list. It decides which leaderboards you appear on. We never use your phone's location to find it.
- Your XP: a record of the lessons you finish, the days you complete your ten words and the lines you say out loud, with the date. This is what the leaderboards and your rank are calculated from, and what restores your progress on a new phone.
- Kudos and nemesis challenges you send or receive, with the date.
Other learners can see your first name, avatar, rank, XP and position on the boards you share. They never see your email address.
This data is stored with Supabase (supabase.com), the database provider Falora runs on, and is encrypted in transit. It is used only to run the features above. It is never sold, never used for advertising, and never shared with anybody else.
Finding your city
When you type a city on the sign-up screen, what you type is sent to Photon (photon.komoot.io), a free place-search service built on OpenStreetMap, so that it can suggest matching cities. Photon receives the text you type and, like any website, your IP address. It does not receive your name, your email or anything else about you.
Payments
If you subscribe, the payment is handled entirely by Apple's App Store or Google Play. They take the money and hold your card details. Falora uses RevenueCat (revenuecat.com) to check whether your subscription is active; it receives an anonymous identifier for you and your purchase history from the store, never your card or your address. Cancel any time in the App Store or Play Store.
The launch list
If you join the launch list on getfalora.com, we keep your email address and your browser's language, so we can send you one email when Falora opens. The list is stored with Cloudflare (cloudflare.com), which runs the website. It is never sold or shared, and we delete the list once that email has gone out. To be taken off it sooner, write to hello@getfalora.com.
Email you choose to send
If you write to us, we keep your email address and what you wrote so we can answer you. It is never sold or shared.
Deleting your account
Settings → Delete account (at the bottom) deletes your account and everything stored with it straight away: your email, name, city, XP, kudos and challenges. It cannot be undone. You can also ask us to do it by writing to hello@getfalora.com, and it will be done within a week.
Children
Falora is not aimed at children under 16 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask to see the data we hold about you, have it corrected, have it deleted, or receive a copy of it. Write to hello@getfalora.com and we will answer within a month. If you are not happy with the answer you can complain to the Portuguese data protection authority (CNPD, cnpd.pt).
Changes
If Falora ever starts collecting something new, this page will say so before that version ships, and the App Store and Play Store data forms will be updated at the same time.
